Advancing Health Literacy

While serving as the Program Director for Advancing Health Literacy & Cultural Health at the Pima County Health Department (from 2021-2023) I was responsible for:

Overseeing the planning, execution, and evaluation of 3 complex grant-funded programs aimed at advancing health literacy and COVID-19 mitigation efforts among historically and contemporarily excluded populations.
Effectively administering and operating a $4.5M dollar budget and implementing evidence-based interventions to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Earned fast-track promotion to Program Director following superior performance and ability to quickly learn and master complex concepts.
Successfully established and led statewide Learning Collaborative, including 4 major County Health Departments and 7 evaluation teams.
Organizing and co-hosting the County’s first Spanish-language Town Hall which reached over 20,000 viewers.

Developed equitable compensation model and gained approvals at the County and Federal levels to compensate community members at a rate of $100/hour for their time and sharing their lived-experience and expertise
Co-wrote the application to secure over $11M in federal grant funding, increasing organizational capacity and established the nation's first Office of Health Policy, Resilience, and Equity.
Designed the department's first Cultural Health initiative, including public arts and creating community-led programming with equitable compensation.
Introduced workforce-led Equity Capability Maturity Model to track and improve organizational development towards equity practices.
